This scene is set in the evening in the cold winter although as the scene is set inside the club so the dress is evening wear typically in the 1930's fur coats were very popular so women and men would have been wearing coats over there evening dress.Within the scene previous to this Sally and cliff are having a discussion about moving back to his home in America, Sally is very against this, when Cliff walks in at the start of the scene Sally is getting ready to go and rehearse at the Kit Kat Klub as they have rang and decided that business was bad without her. Within the scene there is a lot of emphasis on Sally's fur coat at the end she grabs it from the chair and ruses out the door to the Kit Kat Klub for her return performance.
'Sally, Wake up the party in Berlin is over! it was lots of fun but its over and its going to get a lot worst.'
-Cliff
This is a very prominent line within the scene perviously to the scene i will be designing Sally's look for. I feel this shows the audience the situation thats now happening and the effect the Nazi party is having on Berlin. They both traveled to Berlin for fun, excitement and a journey to there dream and its now all coming to an end, Cliff is more willing to accept the end than Sally.
This creates a lot more meaning within the song 'Cabaret' in the scene i will be looking at it shows Sally's determination and immaturity she wants to get to the top so badly she is ignoring the Nazi's effect on Berlin and carrying on the performance.
The scene after this Sally sells her fur coat and gets an abortion. I feel this is important within the scene 'Cabaret' as it happens directly afterwards she went from her performance to the doctors. This could further have an effect on the styling for the scene i will be looking at.
Sally would have been very stressed with everything that was going on, she wanted to make a come back at the Kit Kat Klub, thinking about cliff leaving for america, getting an abortion yet she still puts on a performance.
The words represents Sally's life, she can forget everything and perform.
'whats good sitting alone in your room,
come hear the music play,
life is a cabaret, old chum,
come to the cabaret.'
- Sally
