Introduction

I have never read 'goodbye to berlin' by Christopher Isherwood nor have i watched the film 'Cabaret' directed and choreographed in 1972 by Bob Fosse or even see the theatre production neither did i know much about this era and the excitement of Berlin and the culture of the time on the creative world today.

After having be given the brief we watched a few clips from the film 'Cabaret' the famous song 'Willkommen' and the dance sequence with sally bowels 'Mine Herr' played by Liza Minnelli of whom as an icon i have heard a lot about. When watching these clips i found the music and dance sequences very recognisable and realised that i had myself performed these scene's in Musical theatre Stage School when i was a lot younger the excitement of the song i recognised but watching this time i was captured by the styling and the sexuality of the makeup and hair not only on the women but on the men too using 70's references in story from written in the 1930's i found an exciting concept.

I feel inspired by this brief and topic as its something i don't know a lot about i feel that i really want to learn everything about this outragous and new era within the culture of the people at the time such as Anita Berber a woman whom was very famous in the 30's for having done and will do anything! but further the inspiration the film 'Cabaret' has given so many creatives. Such as Illamasqua's first ever project using berlin in the 30's as a concept for there line. I am excited to begin and find out as much as i can to help me create a design that is culturally, historically correct but also shows my own creative exploration from my inspirations around this topic.
